Johnny Depp Performs in Concert in England, as He Waits for Verdict in Amber Heard Defamation Trial
Johnny Depp performed at an international rock concert this weekend, after closing arguments in his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard had been made Friday in the Virginia Courtroom.
The 58-year-old star made a surprise appearance Sunday at Sheffield City Hall in England. He went on stage to play guitar alongside Jeff Beck. Beck, 77, has his next U.K. stop at London’s Royal Albert Hall Monday and Tuesday. He released “Isolation” together with Depp in April 2020, as a cover of John Lennon’s song.
Depp is described as Beck’s “unexpected conspirator” on the website. He also said that they had been “working together on music for a while.” Beck said that he would be speaking more about Johnny and Depp shortly, but for now, he added that he hoped you could find comfort and solidarity in their take on the Lennon classic.
On Friday, a seven-member jury began deliberating in Depp’s ongoing case against Heard, 36. The Aquaman actress is being sued for defamation after she published a December 2018 opinion piece about bringing forward domestic abuse claims. He is seeking $50 million in damages and claiming that it has hampered his career prospects.
Heard is countersuing Depp for defamation. Heard claims that Depp’s lawyer Adam Waldman made public statements calling her allegations “fake”, “abuse hoax” and damaged her reputation, and that this has impeded her career.
Elaine Bredehoft, Elaine’s lawyer, stated in closing arguments that she arrived at the same amount, twice Depp’s damages. This was to “return the message.” She told the jury that they were not asking for $100 million. We are asking you to look at the damages and be fair and reasonable in what you decide.
Depp spoke earlier about his music career, playing guitar, and how he first aspired to be a musician. With Joe Perry and Alice Cooper, he is part of the Hollywood Vampires.
He talked about his love for guitar-playing and argued why he wouldn’t have cut his finger during an alleged fight in 2015 with Heard in Australia. He claims she threw a bottle of liquor at him, which she denied.
“Why would you ruin my only good thing in your life, other than my children?” The father of two spoke out about how his finger injury had affected his music. “When this finger fell, the tip of the finger fell, and all I could think was, Thank God it wasn’t the left hand which is freehand. … “If I had lost a finger [from my left hand], I would have to learn how to play guitar all over again.”
Last week, Depp categorically denied Heard’s “insane” allegations. He stated, “No human being can be perfect. None of us. However, I have never committed any sexual battery or physical abuse in my entire life. I’ve lived with these outrageous stories for six years, waiting to uncover the truth.
He said, “This isn’t easy for anyone; I know that,” and added, “I don’t think anyone likes the idea of having to be open and tell all the truth.”

Heard then returned to testify under oath once before she described her live-televised trial, which gained global attention, like torture, and said she gets hundreds of death threats each day.
“I am constantly harassed, humiliated, and threatened. Even the thought of walking into a courtroom and being able to see the world the worst of my life, which I have lived through, was enough to humiliate me. Every day, people tell me that they want me to die. People want to microwave my baby, and they tell it,” Heard, who had her first child in April 2021, said. “Johnny threatened me that if I ever leave him, he would make me think about him every day I live.”
Heard, who admitted to using violence and verbal abuse against Depp during their relationship, said: “I’m no saint. As you all know, I don’t pretend to be one.
She said that she was “anxious” after she had seen her testimony mocked online. “I want Johnny to let me be alone. She said, “I don’t deserve this.” I want to get on with my life.”
After the Memorial Day holiday, the jury will resume deliberations on Tuesday. It will be 18 months since Depp’s U.K. Libel case was lost. In November 2020, the actor lost the heavily publicized libel case in London against the British tabloid The Sun. He was accused of calling Depp a “wife-beater”. Heard and the court agreed that the outlet’s claims were “substantially true”. His attempt to reverse the decision in March 2021 was rejected.
